10am to 4pm, Living History Day at Islip Grange The Town of Islip will host its beloved Living History Day at the Islip Grange. The event will feature demonstrations of colonial cookery and military drills, walking tours of the Islip Grange, a mock town meeting using Town Historical Records, and a lesson on how to research your home’s history. Groups participating include local historical societies, reenactment groups, the Montaukett Nation, the Bayport Aerodrome, and the Islip Town Clerk and Historian’s Offices. The family friendly event will take place at the Islip Grange Park, located on Broadway Ave. in Sayville. 10:30am Life at the Fish Hatchery Connetquot River State Park (Family Program) Take a hike with us! Enjoy a leisurely stroll to the fish hatchery where we will explore what we see in nature along the way. Once at the hatchery, we will take a tour to learn about the trout raised there and the history of hatchery operations at Connetquot River State Park Preserve. 1pm, Bayard Cutting Arboretum Saturday Story Hour (Ages 2-4 with caregiver) The cost is $5 per person. No registration is required. Walk-ups welcome. In the first part of our story hour, we invite children to come and explore our outdoor classroom and tour the surrounding farm space. We will gather for the second half of the hour to have our story time. Caregivers are welcome to bring a blanket or yoga mat for their children to relax in the shade and listen to the week’s literary selections. 2pm to 4pm, Bike Rodeo Join the Town of Islip and Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office for a fun, FREE family event, aimed toward teaching children bicycle safety. Activities will include: when to hide on the road; how to use hand signals; how to safely cross an intersection; how to properly wear a bicycle helmet. 2pm, The History of Juneteenth In-Person at the Hauppauge Public Library  Classroom B. Dr. Zebulon Vance Miletsky, an Associate Professor of Africana Studies at Stony Brook University, will discuss the history of Juneteenth and the reasons why it has become a national holiday. Dr. Miletsky will also discuss the history of other celebrations of emancipation in the Northeast and New England, including events held in New York and Long Island. A lively Q&A session will follow.
