Hauppauge School District’s Response to Cancellation of June 2020 Regents Exams

On April 6, 2020, the New York State (NYS) Department of Education announced that all June 2020 Regents Exams are canceled. Dr. Dennis P. O’Hara, Ed.D, Superintendent of Schools, has provided the following details regarding the cancellation of these exams:

  • No student’s graduation will be delayed due to the cancellation of the June 2020 Regents Exams
  • No student will be prevented from moving on in coursework due to the cancellation of the June 2020 Regents Exams
  • No student’s diploma type will be negatively impacted by the cancellation of the June 2020 Regents Exams
  • Students will not be required to take the June 2020 Regents Exams at a later date

In response to the cancellation of the June 2020 Regents Exams, Dr. O’Hara, Ed.D, has announced that the Hauppauge School District’s process of calculating final course grades for High School students and Middle School students taking High School courses will be modified. Traditionally, the final grades of High School students and Middle School students taking High School courses is calculated as follows:

Quarter 1 – 20% of grade

Quarter 2 – 20% of grade

Quarter 3 – 20% of grade

Quarter 4 – 20% of grade

Final Exam – 20% of grade

For the remainder of the school year, the final grades of High School students and Middle School students taking High School courses will be calculated as follows:

Quarter 1 – 25% of grade

Quarter 2 – 25% of grade

Quarter 3 – 25% of grade

Quarter 4 – 20% of grade

Final Exam or Project – 5% of grade

The final exam or project will also count for 20% of each student’s fourth-quarter grade.
