The Friends of the Hauppauge Public Library in conjunction with the Hauppauge School District are pleased to announce Hauppauge’s ninth annual Writing Contest, which will run from Saturday, February 1, 2020 through Monday, March 9, 2020.
This year’s topic asks students to write a story, an essay, a poem, or a story board (comic strip) about a situation, a person, or an event that they feel captures the idea that breaking down or climbing over barriers in life can lead to wonderful things happening for themselves, their families, their community, their school, and/or the world.
Eligible contestants include 1st – 8th grade students attending school in the Hauppauge School District and private or parochial schools served by the Hauppauge Public Library.
1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded to students in four grade-level groups, which are 1st – 2nd, 3rd – 4th, 5th – 6th, and 7th – 8th. 1st prize will be a $25 gift card and 2nd prize will be a $15 gift card.
Participating students are invited to share their writing pieces during a library celebration on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 10 a.m.
