The general election this Tuesday saw little change to the local political landscape, with most incumbents retaining their positions for another election cycle. Suffolk County Executive Steven C. Bellone defeated challengers John M. Kennedy, Jr. and Gregory-John Fischer to serve his third and final term. Thomas Cilmi, incumbent Suffolk County Legislator for the 10th District, won against opponent Joseph G. Hagelmann to serve another two-year term in office. Incumbents dominated the Town of Islip elections as well, with Town Supervisor (Angie Carpenter), Town Council (John C. Cochrane, Jr. and Mary Kate Mullen), Town Clerk (Olga H. Murray), and Receiver of Taxes (Alexis Weik) all remaining unchanged.
Elections were also held for county court seats, with Andrea H. Schiavoni and Victoria Gumbs Moore securing two available seats for Suffolk County Family Court Judge, and Edward J. Hennessey winning for Suffolk County District Court Judge, 1st District. In addition, Stephen J. Lynch, Angela G. Iannacci (incumbent), David P. Sullivan, Christopher G. Quinn, David J. Gugerty, and Thomas Rademaker secured six available seats on the New York State Supreme Court, 10th District.
