Covid-19 Legislative and Medical Update [Virtual]

June 24, 2020 @ 7:00 pm

Pre-Register Through the Sayville Library Beforehand  When are we opening and how? That is the question of the day on Long Island, where our small businesses make up much of our middle class. At 7pm on Wednesday, June 24th, Dr. James J. Bertsch, Jr. will moderate a panel that rounds the bend of the government to include medical and emergency medical services experts. PLEASE PRE-REGISTER AT https://tinyurl.com/SayLibCovid. YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL WITH A LINK TO PARTICIPATE. Join Suffolk County Commissioner of the Department of Health Services, Dr. Gregson H. Pigott, M.D., Mr. Jamie Atkinson, Community Ambulance Board Trustee, NYS Senator Monica Martinez, NYS Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino, Garbarino’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Jarret Gandolfo, the Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislator, Mr. Robert Calarco, and Town of Islip Councilman Mr. James P. O’Connor. We will examine our current opening plan including the benchmarks and phases of our opening plan. Safely opening from Covid-19 is a challenge. Covid-19 rarely takes lives directly. Instead, like all viruses, it compromises bodily systems that take lives. And while the most common symptom is a fever, which may go unnoticed, people who contract Covid-19 can go 2-14 days before showing symptoms. Meanwhile, testing is only 60-70% accurate. This panel will NOT answer this question, Should we open or not? The BIG questions we take up instead are: 1) what are the Covid-19 benchmarks we are using to assess citizen safety? 2) to what extent are we hitting these Covid-19 benchmarks? 3) what are the opening phases and at what phase are we now in?
